Add it without increasing fuelling and the engine runs lean, and a lean race engine is how you get detonation, pre-ignition, melted plugs and holed pistons. This is not a top-up you splash in and drive. You must re-jet or re-map, confirm with plug readings, and retard timing on high-compression engines.
